To bump a thread on an inter forum is to post a reply in order to raise the thread’s profile by returning it to the top of the list of active threads. This is also called "necroposting". 这种“灌水”往往被认为是一种垃圾留言（spam），被很多论坛制止。

“潜水”指在论坛、聊天室等只浏览不发言的行为，这样的人好似“潜水员”，永远不浮出水面。“潜水”在英语中的对应词是lurk：

Lurking is an activity performed on Inter Forums or Chat rooms that involves wandering the website, reading posts and never actually posting anything. 长期“潜水”会导致论坛人气缺乏，这样的member最终会被管理员取消成员资格，但在刚刚参加某一论坛时为了了解论坛的风格和讨论的主题短时间的“潜水 ”是被承受和鼓励的。
