Abstract: With the development of our society, we not only need to know our country’s history and culture but also should know the foreign countries’ history and culture. The society of the 18th century British was controlled by Whig and Tory. The consolidation of bourgeoisie regime, the preparatory figuration of commercial society and the beginning of industrial revolution made England became a changeable society. Gulliver’s Travels is the masterpiece of Jonathan Swift, the greatest satirical writers in the history of British. The novel exposes all the corruption and ugliness about the real British society in the aspects of economics, politics, diplomatic, scientific and culture. This thesis selected four aspects, the Social Reality in Lilliput, the Social Reality in Brobdingnag, the Kingdom of Laputa and the Country of the Houyhnhnms, to explore the unique feature of the real British society. Through analysis, the thesis then obtains its conclusion: the unique phenomena in Gulliver’s Travels reflect the real society of the British. The strange phenomena in Lilliput are mainly to stand for the Struggles Between Tory and Whig and the Way of Choosing Officials. The Country of Brobdingnag points out the ills and evil that inhere in English life The Kingdom of Laputa stand for the society was dominated by the arbitrary and brutal rulers. And the Country of the Houyhnhnms not only expressed the author’s satire of corruption and degradation in British from the comparison between Houyhnhnms and Yahoo, such as social evils and the irony of the political life and the bad habits, but also expressed Swift’s pursuit of a better human society and a better life. It is hoped that the thesis could be helpful for the development of our modern society.

摘要：伴随着社会的发展，我们需要知道的不仅仅是我们国家的历史和文化还有国外的历史和文化。在辉格党和托利党的统治下，18世纪的英国成了一个多变的社会——资产阶级统治的巩固，商业社会的逐渐成形以及工业革命的开始。格列夫游记是英国历史上最著名的讽刺作家乔纳森·斯威夫特的著作。这部小说揭露的英国社会在经济、政治、外交、科学以及文化方面的腐败和丑陋。这篇论文从利立浦、布罗丁奈格、飞岛国以及慧骃国四个国家的社会现象入手来探索英国社会。综合分析得出，格列夫游记中独特的社会现象反映了英国的现实社会：利立浦奇怪的社会现象主要代表了辉格党和托利党的竞争以及政府官员的选拔，布罗丁奈格主要反映了英国社会生活的邪恶，飞岛国象征了被武断和残酷的统治者统治下的英国，而慧骃国则通过耶胡和慧骃之间的比较表达了作者对英国社会腐败和堕落的讽刺如对社会恶习、对政治生活的讥讽等。同时也表达了作者对美好的人类社会及美好生活的向往。希望这篇论文对我们现代人类社会的发展有所帮助。
