Part One
Hi,everybody. It's my honor to give you my presentation here.,I'd like to introduce my topic today--Phobia
A phobia is basically a fear. We all have fears about things such as heights and spiders but, for most of us, they do not interfere with the way we lead our lives.
This disorder is a kind of neurosis predominated by excessive, unreasonable panic of external objects or situations
The patients are fully aware of unnecessary but cannot prevent panic attacks
Panic attacks are usually accompanied by prominent anxiety and autonomic symptoms
The patient tries to avoid phobic objects or situations, or endures with dread. What Causes Phobia?
Researchers are uncertain exactly what causes phobias. However, it is commonly believed that certain factors may increase the likelihood that a phobia will develop.
Genetics: Research has shown that certain phobias may run in families. For example, twins who are raised separately, in different locations, may develop the same phobias.
Cultural Factors: Some phobias occur only in certain cultural groups. It is therefore possible that culture plays some role in phobia development. An example a social phobia that appears almost exclusively in Japan. This is a fear of offending or harming others in social situations. It is markedly different from a traditional social phobia, in which the sufferer is afraid of being personally embarrassed on humiliated.
Life Experience: Many phobias are based in real-life events that may or may not be consciously remembered. A phobia of dogs, for example, may stem from being attacked as a small child. A social phobia may develop from teenage awkwardness or childhood bullying. (1) Claustrophobia 幽闭恐惧症
Claustrophobia is the fear of having no escape and being closed in small spaces or rooms. It is typically classified as an anxiety disorder and often results in panic attack, and can be the result of many situations or stimuli, including elevators crowded to capacity, windowless rooms, and even tight-necked clothing (2)Trypophobia 密集恐惧症
Trypophobia is an irrational phobia of holes, such as: small holes found in plants, lotus flower's head, bubbles in the
dough etc. All these causes trypophobics, an extreme anxiety form, so as triggering reactions such as: itchy skin, nausea and feelings of discomfort. (3) social phobia 社交恐惧症
social phobia is an intense, excessive, and irrational fear in social situations. People with sociophobia get very nervous in the middle of crowd and afraid to interact with other people especially stranger.
This kind of phobia is triggered by someone’s worry of other people’s judgement. Sociophobic people afraid that their act and talk would embarrass themselves and make other people look down on them. Without any effort to overcome the problem, sociophobia may ruin someone’s life. It will prevent someone from using public facilities, making friends, getting job, building relationship and having family.
