Findings through the story of Prometheus stealing fire Prometheus, the son of Gaia and Eros, was one of the Titan. Prometheus had not only created the first human being, but also taught them a lot of things to survive themselves from wild animals. Even when he found it essential for human to have fire for cooking food or defending themselves, he was determined to steal fire from Zeus and succeeded to do it. Zeus was furibund about what Prometheus did and commanded two servants to arrest Prometheus and locked him on the mount Caucasia. Everyday Prometheus suffered from extreme pain for thousand years until Heracles, who passes by on his way finding golden apple, saved Prometheus and set him free.

This is my favorite story in Greek mythology, because such story can always warm my heart and make me feel hopeful. Prometheus sacrificed himself for human beings having wonderful life, and he still kept this mind under the cruel punishment from Zeus. Here I am surprise to see an original hero in western countries through the story. In recent decades, it’s not infrequent for us to watch a movie, which tells a story that the hero is very creative and brave in breaking rules to bring happiness or freedom to human beings, even challenge the exalted gods or people in great power. But always, these heroes will surfer a lot before their high-minded


dreams come true, and always there may be another kind but capable person helping heroes out of hell. It is just like a certain pattern to mould a hero. Don’t you think that this kind of pattern is exactly the way how Prometheus makes himself a hero? I believe few people will say no.

For so many years, western people kept building such roles, or heroes, to light up the darkness in their heart when they felt lost on their way developing better world. Bible, which had a great impact in western people’s thought for a long time, also showed us such hero, or we called him savior---Jesus. Jesus, who suffered from excruciation of being executed on a cross, reborn to heaven and brought hope and light to human, pointed out the right way for human beings. Zorro, another fabled role in a literature, fought against aristocrats for the commonalty squeezed by aristocrats. The same, Zorro experienced hellish pain but finally succeeded to do it. In our ages, man-made heroes like Spiderman, Batman, and Superman and so on fill with our eyes.

So we can see that in different periods of history, or in a certain time, people knew they always needed a fearless and creative man to fight for those normal people, to make them feel that there were still hopes in the near future, Like Prometheus, like Jesus, like Zorro. People cooked up such stories and heroes and let them hand down to
