一、Teaching contents: Dialogue 1 and the Grammar of lesson Four 二、Teaching aims:
⑴ Learn the pattern: “There be …”
⑵ Learn the phrases: in front of the house, under the tree, in the tree, behind the house. ⑶ Recite the Dialogue 1.
三、Teaching aids: a recorder, a doll, a box, a picture. 四、Teaching procedures: Step 1 Preparation ⑴ Greeting ⑵ Call the roll ⑶ Duty report
⑷ Sing a song《What’sthe time?》 ⑸ Announce the aims of the period Step 2 Revision
⑴ Review the new words of preposition.
⑵ Listen and write down the Chinese meanings of the following new words: on, in, under,
behind, between, front.
⑶ Say the chant:
on, on在上面。 in, in在里面。under, under在下面。in front of 在前面。 behind, behind在后面。next to 在旁边。between, between 在中间。 Step 3 Presentation ⑴ Presentation of the dialogues.
Show the picture on the blackboard. There is a house, a tree and some birds in the picture. The teacher asks the students some questions. T: What’s this? Ss: It’s a house. / It’s a tree. / It’s a horse. T: What are they? Ss: They are some birds. / They are some hens. T: There is a tree in front of the house.
T: What’s in the tree? Ss: There are some birds in it. The teacher summarizes the pattern: There be … ⑵ Get the students to look at the picture on the blackboard, then the teacher asks and the
students answer.
T: What’s under the tree? Ss: There are some hens under it. T: What’s in the tree? Ss: There are some birds in it. T: What’s behind the house? Ss: There is a horse behind it. ⑶ Learn the chant.
There is, there are, 某处有某物。 There is, there is, 接单数。 There are, there are, 接复数。
⑷ Get the students to open their books, then listen to the tape and repeat thet sentence by
sentence. The teacher writes down the key words and phrases. ⑸ Look at the key words and phrases. Divide the students into two groups, one group asks

questions, the other answers.
⑹ The teacher cleans the key words and phrases, then gets the students act out the dialogue. Step 4 Drill and practice. ⑴ Practice the preposition.
Ask one student to speak out a preposition, and another student makes a sentence using the pattern.
e.g. S1: under S2: There is a ball under the chair. S1: on S2: There are some books on the desk. … ⑵ Show a doll and a box. Then make some dialogues. The teacher makes a model: Put the doll in the box. T: What’s in the box? Ss: There is a doll in it. Get the students to make some dialogues.
⑶ Show the following stick drawings. Then talk about them one by one. T: Now, let’s try another type of exercise. T: What’s on the plate? Ss: There are some grapes on it. T: What’s under the table? Ss: There is a present box under it. T: What’s on the sandwich? Ss: There is a rat on it. T: What’s on the chair? Ss: There is a book on it. …
Step 5 Consolidation, summary and assignment of homework. ⑴ Consolidation
Get the students to do Ex on page 22 in Exercise Book. (Write down four sentences.) ⑵ Summary:
Ask some students to tell me what they have learned this class. ⑶ Assignment of homework.
a. Review the new prepositions we have learned. Ss will have to listen to the words next class. b. Recite the Dialogue 1. c. Preview the Dialogue 2.
