Charlie Chaplin

Charlie Chaplin was a famous English comic actor and film director of the silent film era .He was born on April 16, 1889 in London. His father was an entertainer and his mother Hannah was an entertainer. Unfortunately his parent divorced early in his life .after that Chaplin and his brother were living with Hannah. At his age of 12, his mother suffered from mental illness and his father was die at37 years old. Since then he become a waif.

The poor life in childhood not only inspired him, but also gave him the inspiration to create the character of tramp. We have the image of the character which was a vagrant with the refined manners and dignity of a gentleman who wears a tight coat, oversized trousers and shoes, a bowler hat, carries a bamboo cane, and has a signature toothbrush moustache in deep impression. It is said that The Gold Rush was Chaplin’s most favorite

works. The story said that Tramp Charlie with large number of poor to find the gold to Alaska. Charlie came across with the prospectors Jim and Larson .Larson was a wanted. When he went out and looked for food, he killed a policeman. Later he knocked Jim out , and then took Jim’s gold away. Charlie went to the town and fell in love with a dancing girl named Georgia. He invited Georgia for dinner on New Year’s Eve, but she didn’t come. Before long Charlie met with Jim, but Jim had memory loss. Jim asked Charlie to help him find the gold. After innumerable trials and hardships , they found the gold and become rich. When they came back, Charlie saw Georgia again , at that time Georgia was frustrated. Finally, Charlie and Georgia affectionate hug to each other before the reporters.

There is no doubt that Charlie Chaplin was one of the greatest actors to the film development. He use film to describe the deep sympathy to the laborers and crime of the fascist. In 1972, Chaplin backed to America and was awarded the” Academy Honorary Award”. He was also

introduced by Oscar with the word "In this century for the film, made invaluable






contribution". I have watched Chaplin’s film at very young age, at that time, I don’t know the deep meaning of his move, I was only laughed by his interesting action. But now I respect this great artist whose name is Charlie Chaplin.
