儿童英语短故事：我欠你一个漂浮

Mr Smith worked in a post office and three years ago ,when he was

sixty ,he retired .Now he and his wife stay at home and his children work in another city .The old woman does all housework

and he has nothing to do at home .He likes neither reading nor watching games .At first he didn’t know how to spend the spare time .Mr Hunt who was two years older than him asked him to go fishing with him .

“It’s a good sport ,”said Mr Hunt .“I’m sure you will soon be interested in it .”

“But I cann’t fish at all ,you know .”

“That’s easy .Go fishing with me tomorrow morning and I’ll teach you .” Mr Smith decided to try his luck .The following day the two old friends came to a river and began to fish .Suddenly Mr Smith said ,“How much do those little red things cost ?”

“You mean the floats ?Oh ,they are cheap .What made you ask me such a question ?”

“I owe you one .Mine has just sunk .”

Mr Brown had lived in a village before he became a famous lawyer .He remembered his hard life during studying in the colleage .And his parents borrowed much money for him .So he worked hard and tried his best to get more money .

Now he lives in a beautiful house with his family and his son Rechard is clever .He likes the boy very much and sent him to the best school in the city .He hoped Rechard to live a happy lift

and buys everything the boy wants .He wished his son could become a great scientist .


But he doesn’t know Rechard hates studying and spents much time in playing .Now he’s interested in fishing and sometimes cuts classes .So he failed in the exams .Miss Young ,his headteacher

,tells him not to do that ,but hd doesn’t listen to her .She became angry after the boy was late again one afternoon .

“I’ll visit your father tomorrow evening ,Rechard ,”said Miss Young .”I will ask a good way to educate you .”

Jim found work in a shop two years ago .Mrs White ,the shopkeeper ,trusts the able young man and pays him more .He’s happy and works harder .

Once Jim knew a beautiful girl called Mabel at a friend’s party .They danced several times and fell deeply in love .But Mabel’s parents didn’t agree to marry their daughter to a poor young

man .So they began to travel in America and didn’t let the girl come back to London .She wrote a letter to Jim and told him about it .Of course the young man hadn’t enough money to go to see

her .He was so sad that he began to drink .

It was Saturday one day .Jim didn’t go to work .He came to a bar and sat down to drink again .Just then Mike ,an old friend of his ,came in .Jim asked him to drink with him .Crying ,he told

Mike all and the young man felt sorry for him .But he didn’t know what to do ,either .Then they stopped talking and drank .After a while they were both drunk and left .

Mike wanted to take his friend home .When they passed a zoo ,they went in and walked to a cage in which there were two tigers .Having seen them , a tiger roared .Mike was afraid and said

,“Let’s go .It’s dangerous to stand here .”
