Development and Environment

This time I will discuss a old topic——Development and Environment. Recently, the topic has been brought into focus. Particularly in modern china, some people believed that protecting the environment are important than developing economy. But other argues that developing economy is more important than protecting the environment. There is probably some truth in both arguments. We can stand on both positions to observing those views.

First suppose we are standing on the first view. We can see, with the developed of the Chinese economy and enhanced comprehensive strength. China has become the leader of the third world countries. Meantime, on the one hand, they point, with the rapid development of our economy and society, pollution is more and more serious. Recent year a variety of factory has been set up. Those factories cause some place surrounding by smoke all days. Actually, Soil Stalinization and Desertification（土地盐碱化和荒漠化） also become more and more seriously. At same time the quality of potable water declined year on year. Our living environment is going from bad to worse. On the other hand, due to the development of our economy and society, people live in the environment with high speed development, and them as busy as a bee. Therefore, in order to aspiring more efficient life style, people may choose some tool to improve their life. Thereupon（于是）, many families consider to buying a car. And many Chinese families can afford a car. That means there will engender increasingly waster gas. As a result, on the committee of Copenhagen（哥本哈根）China has been criticized by some developed country such as the America the Britain the French and so on. Because of our greenhouse gases emissions is higher than those countries. Those place China at a disadvantage position. So those people who supporting the first view will say that environment protects are more important than developing economy.

However, suppose we are standing on the second view. We also can find that with the rapid development of economy and society, China’s international status has been enhanced. Furthermore, China has been trusted by more and more counties. Other counties use a particular noun to describe our speed as “China speed”, and some countries reported that China will exceed other west countries someday. From latest information we can see China have already exceeding some west countries like French and Britain. Through all this phenomena, other people have their own opinion that economy growth should receive priority in China. They point out firstly, now the policy of our country is focus on economy. Insisting on sustainable development is our centre problem. Secondly, let’s take a scan of our country pollution has already brought about a certain extent damage. Therefore we should concern how to restore the environment and so, on the premise of protecting the environment, we should develop economy in priority, in which way we can get healthy financial help to develop advanced technologies and thus creating a greener homeland. Thirdly, as we know for a country the most important is to make his economy in certain leader status. Only in this condition, can we have extra strength to concerning our environment. As Marx said: Material basis is determined the superstructure（经济基础决定上层建筑）. In a word, only should we make our economy more and more going up, and we can have extra strength to making our environment more and more comfortable. Above all, those people who insist on the second view said that in modern China developing the economy is more important than protecting the environment.

In summary, both of those views have his foothold. On the problem of developing economy and protecting environment, we are hard to choose which one we should take more attention. But


as far as I am concerned, I prefer to support the second view. Where our national condition is concerned, environment has been polluted, and now our target is to developing economy tightly. Then, we should utilizing advanced technology to improve our live condition and using abundant fund to supporting environmental protection. Just imagine if we don’t have enough money, we can do what to accomplish environmental protection project? So in this condition which our economy and technology are can not call developed. Technologies have no able to serving environment perfect yet. Economic base was also not secured can not afford to pay high environmental expenses. Therefore we have to developing our economy and the development of economy must come before all else. As a result, we should do our best to protect the environment. On the premise of environmental protection developing New and High Technology Industry and promoting sustained development of economy and go the way of sustainable development. Thus on the economic development and environmental protection we should taking the environmental protection as emphasis, and giving priority to the development of the economy.
